BRIDGEPORT -- As concrete was poured and pilings driven, city officials ceremonially marked the start of construction Thursday on a $40 million emergency operations/dispatch center and public facilities complex on Housatonic Avenue.

"We are taking a parcel, which was vacant and filled with antiquated and dilapidated buildings, and turning it into a $40 million facility that will better serve the needs of city residents, as well as members of the Police and Fire departments, Mayor John M. Fabrizi said. "The site will also be the home for all of the public facilities departments, currently scattered throughout the city."
